Not every hospitality space is built to stay the same forever. A seasonal terrace can open in April and close in October, when the temperatures are lower. Same goes for the warmer seasons: a pop-up bar runs for one summer on a rooftop, a restaurant extends onto the pavement for a festival weekend, or keeps trading from half its floor while the other half is being renovated. In all of these cases, the furniture has to do two jobs at once: look good enough to protect your brand, and be practical enough to be moved, stacked and stored without too much effort.

Why temporary venues need a different approach
Furniture for a permanent bar in a restaurant can afford to be heavy and fixed in place. Temporary and semi-outdoor set-ups cannot. Staff will set out and collect pieces daily, often in a rush before service or when the weather suddenly turns. Storage space is limited, and what you store should take up as little room as possible. Since the venue may only trade for a few months, every item also needs to earn its place from day one.
Five qualities matter most:
- Low weight: if one person can carry several chairs at once, daily setup takes minutes instead of becoming a chore. Over a season, that saving adds up.
- Stackability: stackable seating turns a storage problem into a small footprint, which matters in back rooms, containers and shared basements.
- Weather and UV resistance: materials that fade, crack or rust after a few weeks in the sun and rain will undermine the investment before the season is over.
- Easy cleaning: outdoor furniture gets dusty, sticky and splashed. Surfaces that a damp cloth can handle keep your team focused on guests.
- Consistent heights: stools, counters and tables have to match each other. This is easy to overlook when planning a quick set-up, and it makes a big difference to guest comfort.

Four examples that fit the brief
Lido Mini: the lightest option. Lido Mini is a stackable stool with a polypropylene structure that resists weather and UV rays. At just 3.9 kg, it is the lightest piece in this selection, and its 65 cm seat height suits lower bar set-ups. The minimalist, contemporary silhouette works well on a terrace, and the colour range (bianco, anthracite, tortora and agave) makes it easy to match a pop-up concept or refresh a seasonal look. A microfibre cloth with mild soapy water is all it needs for a clean refresh.

Trill BK: a practical all-rounder. Trill BK is a stackable stool made from glass-fibre-reinforced polypropylene, uniformly coloured and treated with UV additives. It has a matt finish and non-slip feet, which is a real advantage on terrace paving, decking or temporary event flooring. It weighs 5 kg, has a 76 cm seat height, and works indoors as well as outdoors. That makes it a good choice for venues that move furniture between an interior bar and an outdoor extension.

Thor BK: industrial character. For venues that want a more characterful look, Thor BK is a stackable bar stool with a durable steel structure and a minimalist industrial style. Its biggest strength is colour: the range runs to nearly twenty finishes, from neutral tones such as matt white, black and cement to bolder shades such as intense red and curry yellow. This lets you tie the furniture closely to your branding. It weighs 6.9 kg and has a 75 cm seat height. As with any steel furniture, rinse and dry it after cleaning, and protect it from the elements when it is not in use.

Ikon: a temporary bar also needs places where guests can rest a drink, and Ikon is built for that. It is a round polypropylene table base designed for spaces that refuse to compromise between appearance and durability, and it suits lounges, terraces and social areas. It is available in several heights, so it can be specified at high-table level to sit alongside bar stools. The top is chosen separately from a wide range of options, which lets you match the size and finish to your concept. The base weighs 5.7 kg, is suitable for outdoor use, and comes in a restrained palette of light grey, white, sand, black and green. Cleaning follows the same simple routine as the stools: mild soapy water and a microfibre cloth.

Heights deserve attention. For bar and counter areas, a useful rule of thumb is to leave roughly 25 to 30 cm between the seat and the counter surface. Lido Mini, with its 65 cm seat, suits lower counters, while Thor BK (75 cm) and Trill BK (76 cm) suit higher ones. When you add high tables, choose an Ikon base height that keeps the same gap to the seat, and the whole bar area will feel consistent.
A temporary layout often combines two zones: a counter with stackable stools for quick drinks, and a few high tables where guests can stand or perch for longer. Choosing pieces from the same material family, such as polypropylene stools with a polypropylene table base, keeps cleaning routines simple. A single steel accent like Thor BK adds contrast without complicating maintenance.
A temporary venue should not be treated as a compromise
Temporary venues are often treated as a compromise, but guests do not judge a bar by how long it will stay open. They judge it by comfort, atmosphere and consistency across the area. Choosing light, stackable, UV protected and weather-resistant furniture lets your team set up and pack away quickly, protects your investment through the season, and keeps the venue looking intentional from the first day.
For owners planning a seasonal terrace bar, a pop-up concept or a temporary extension during a renovation, the selection criteria come down to four essentials: pieces that are light, stackable and resistant to the elements, with heights that work together as a coherent whole. Furniture that meets these requirements allows your team to operate with greater ease and efficiency, and gives guests a setting that feels considered from the first day to the last. In a temporary venue, that combination of practicality and polish is what allows the space to perform as well as a permanent one.
